Tesco Automated Recycling Centre Locations
In an attempt to earn some Clubcard Green Points, I tried (with great difficulty) to locate my nearest Tesco store with an Automatic Recycling bank. Even the main Tesco website doesn’t have a list, and any links to a list redirects to the corporate website.
Apparently there are 100 of them in the UK but finding a list has proven to be quite a challenge. I managed to pull a list from an internet archive captured in July 2012, and as such I cannot guarantee the accuracy. If you know of any exceptions or errors let me know.

hi, thanks for this list, such a good idea! I have found an error for my local stores though, the store in Hornchurch road (london & inside m25) doesn’t have one, but there is one at the gallows corner store, bryant avenue, harold hill, romford, essex (sorry don’t know the postcode!)
Its not there any more 27-11-2014
Pingback: Earn Clubcard points with cans at Tesco Recycling Centres
Cheltenham’s has vanished completely. It was set on fire one Saturday LUNCHTIME!! Did nobody see the culprits? Apparently not! Not so very observant trolley collectors. So Cheltenham’s has been removed for good. Shame.
Redditch still has theirs, but the screens are difficult to see and it’s nothing to do with the sun either!!
Theres no longer a automated site at Thurrock
I went to Tesco Aberdare today and there’s a poster on the front of the machine stating that the machine itself is being recycled! And to use the industrial waste bins they’ve lined up in front of it. No more points!
Has this happened in any other areas?
Hi Rachel, Unfortunately it seems to be happening in a number of places 🙁
I contacted Tesco a few days ago and they emailed me saying that once the machines are faulty they are being removed, and also due to the local councils providing an improved recycling service,BUT NO POINTS!!!. Harlow’s Edinburgh Way,and Cheshunt Brookfield Farm have both seen their machines removed.
…Redditch no longer has theirs! I went yesterday and pulled up in front of it to be rewarded with a big empty space – the staff on the “click and collect” desk had no idea where it has gone and/or if it will return…
Thanks Jane, will make a note on the list
The machine at Long Eaton has been totally ripped out. Hope they are going to put new one in but doubt it!
The centre at Irlam Manchester has now (most Unfortunatley and without warning) been removed.
What’s happening with Upperboat Pontypridd as far as recycling machine is concerned it’s been taken away when is it coming back?
Havant and Portsmouth North Harbour have both vanished in the last week or so and replaced by loads of big wheely bins…..email sent to Customer Services
Hi Matt, did you ever get a response from Customer Services?
The machines at Yeading and Bullsbridge have gone
Thanks Michael, seems to be happening all over the place
The one in Havant has been removed and replaced with old style bins for bottles only. Is this temporary?
Thanks Deborah, no idea if it’s permanent or not. If they do come back, please let us know.
The Cirencester one seems to have had theirs removed 🙁

Hi
Recycling at Watford extra seems to have been removed too with a notice indicating that it won’t return. I guess it’s the end of the scheme ? Seems they are slowly disappearing everywhere
Kind regards
Iain
The recycling centre at Borehamwood Extra (Hertfordshire) has been removed.
Last week, a sign was put up with the message “Site Closed”. Staff at customer service knew nothing about it and thought they were just fixing it.
This week, the centre was removed.
Getting the impression that Tesco may be abandoning them entirely.
Looks like it I’m afraid. I have emailed customer service, will let you know what they respond with.
I have just spoken to Tesco Customer Services, and according to them the company managing/servicing the machines have gone into administration.
This means the machines are all being taken down, and probably sold off as assets of that company.
They assured me that the removal of the automated recycling centres IS temporary and that they will return once they have a new supplier. They hope to have it in place within a couple of weeks.
All Tesco Extra’s with recycling centres should have been fully informed of this a couple of weeks ago, but they will look into ensuring the information is out there for them to pass on.
I suggested they ensure something is posted both online, and near the old centres, to inform customers of the situation and they would look into that too.
Thanks Brian, that’s great news. Hope they come up with something official to share with everyone. Seems to be lots of rumors going around.
I too found the Borehamwood Extra one to have been removed when I went there yesterday, I do hope it’s only temporary, I am now in a quandry whether to keep storing up my used cans or to recycling them in standard recycling bins! Any official word from Tesco or an update on when the Borehamwood one may be replaced would be most appreciated?
I hope the above is true and that the machines will be returning soon. Apart from the club card points awarded for aluminium cans these machines encouraged people including us to also recycle bottles and pet food tins etc. Being able to take the above cans/tins/bottles every couple of days to the local Tesco saves storing them in limited space at home for the fortnightly curbside recycling collection. Don’t let us down Tesco, were loyal shoppers, please bring our machines back… The current 1100 litre wheely bins now replacing the machines at our local Tesco are full everytime we go, we can’t dump the cans in a sack next to the bins as that counts as fly tipping (a fineable offence)….
The one in Southampton has been removed 🙁
The recycling machine at the Brockworth store has been removed as well.
Machines at littlehampton and chichester have gone
The one at Tesco Aylesbury is closed. spoke to the customer service there and they said that there was no intention to replace it.
The recycling machine has been removed today from Aylesbury Extra (I saw it being loaded onto the lorry) When I asked at customer service they smiled and told me ‘it’s ok because they are putting a Giraffe restaurant there instead” That’s ok then I will pop into the new restaurant and get them to recycle my cans for clubcard points when it opens!
The one in Oakham Rutland has gone too. They said any replacement would not do points.
The machine at Altrincham Extra has been removed as of early August 2014
Hi Kieran, after receiving no replies to my emails and telephone calls over the past four weeks about the removal of the Chesterfield, Ilkeston and Worksop automated recycling machines all in the same week, I telephoned customer services this afternoon. I have been informed that all the machines are being withdrawn permanently and will not be replaced due to people consistently abusing the green points system. When I complained about there not being anything on their website about this decision, I was told that this information was on an internal memo only. I stated that this was a poor service and I had undertaken two twenty mile round trips for nothing to recycle my cans. I was informed by customer services at the Chesterfield store that this was only a temporary situation until the machine had been replaced by a new one. I have complained about the lack of information and Tesco say they are preparing information to go out to store managers, in order to tell customers. I bit late me thinks……, Adrian
Thanks Adrian, seems like we are getting lots of mixed messages from Customer Service. Would be interesting to see what exactly the mean my the system being abused.
Recycling centre at Tesco, Brockworth in Gloucestershire has been removed completely, many weeks ago now.
Looks permanent with bin replacements for the machine but only for plastic bottles and cans.
This store is in Tewkesbury Borough Council domain which allows residents to put ALL plastics and cans into one of two bins provided by them. Why not supply this type of bin for public use at Tesco?
Just to let you know, the Chichester centre has also gone. Infuriating!
Hopefully some good news from the comment above; in the meantime though it’s worth reporting that the Glasgow St Rollox and Glasgow Rutherglen sites have both had their machines removed 🙁
Thanks Scott
Sorry, but i have to report the Chichester, West Sussex machine has gone too. The Littlehampton, West Sussex store is closest to us but their machine disappeared last month. By the way, the mess in, on and around the bins at Chichester was appalling. Presumably staff were not informed of the need to have them emptied!
Gallows corner romford now gone
Recycling centre at Andover in Hampshire has also been removed and replaced with the old fashioned glass recycling bins.
Thanks Clare
What a bummer 🙁 Really badly communicated, and so many mixed messages! Really hope they will replace them.
In the meantime, Kilmarnock, Irvine and Ayr have all had theirs removed. 🙁
I agree Anna. Have sent another email to Customer Support, hope they come back with some positive news.
One at Twickenham , inside m25 has been removed .
Twickenham Extra
Mogden Lane
Isleworth

I visited site on 18/08/14.
Please note that the recycling centre at Amersham London Road West has been removed, this means we have nowhere to recycle cans for points in Buckinghamshire any longer.
Had it confirmed this morning that it’s unlikely they’ll be back
Gatwick, Crawley and Burgess Hill all gone.
Really hope they make a formal announcement soon of what they’re going to do!
It’s getting harder to justify shopping at Tesco these days.
Baldock gone too. I think it’s save to assume that they have or will vey soon all have gone. A bit pathetic not to announce and come clean on the part of TESCO.
The one at wigan went ages ago
Going to horwich today hopefully its ok
Hi there, this came to Basildon at SS15 6TJ and non of machine is not working. It was full of bottles … Looks like no one care what is going on. Unfortunately cannot post a pic:( so don’t waste ur time. I was collecting about a month a cans… Had about 200 of them
Pengam green in cardiff gone, penarth in South Glamorgan gone.
Looks like the whole country has been wiped out 🙁
Osterley Extra
Osterley Park
Isleworth
TW7 5NZ
Sad to report that Osterley’s machines have now gone too, replaced by overflowing bins leaving their forecourt looking like a dirty jumble sale. All 4 of my regulars have been removed and I have been left with a car load of cans after having made several wasted journeys. I am lucky as we have a recycling collection alongside our rubbish collection. But shame on Tesco for removing such a good incentive for people to both recycle and (one would assume) shop at their stores – I would shop there if I was taking my recycling, but won’t anymore as it’s out of my way. A worse shame is Tesco’s lack of communication to it’s customers about the removal of their recycling facilities – whatever happened to ‘Every Little Helps’?
The unit at Hatfield Extra has been removed
Twickenham, Osterley, Greenford Hoover, Hayes Yeading and Hayes Bulls Bridge have all been removed. Such a shame environmentally and not a good move commercially as I’m sure many combined recycling with their shopping (and you always buy more than you intended to).
We had saved 3 month’s worth of cans and have just visited our local which is Cannock Heath Hayes and we were greeted by a large void and some recycling bins. So sad and very disappointed with Tesco for lack of information on their website.
Sadly the recycling set up at Brookfield Centre, Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire was decommissioned on 26/08/14. Looks like Tesco are just getting rid of these facilities everywhere. Poor communication all round, what a poor show from Tesco.
Recycling at Brookfield Farm Centre has been removed. This will mean many ‘lost’ green points for me which are a great help. Bad decision.
Cranbrook Road ILFORD has been removed. The extra reward points were handy.Less reason to visit store now.
Recycling machine at Southend also gone. Went there this morning to re-cycle a month’s worth of cans. We have been doing this on a regular basis for years. Reading previous posts, it seems Tesco have removed machines because they are losing money on the points rewarded = very disappointing attitude. Is it even worth me bothering to contact Tesco to register a complaint?
I can confirm that bot Brent Cross and Colney Hatch have both been removed too.
The Harlow one is gone too.
And have you seen this? Oakham in Rutland – theirs has been removed but with a different story:
http://martinbrookes.blogspot.co.uk/2014/07/electronic-recycling-centre-removed.html
And another reason given, this time from Glasgow, St Rollox Extra:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/23281651-post1465.html
Crawley, Hazelwick Rd. Has been removed. They’ve put recycling bins which are so full they have overflowed and cans and bottles and plastics are full up everywhere…
agree with you 100% shalise shame on tesco tut tut !!!
Recycling centre at St Peters, Worcester has also gone and has been replaced with normal recycling bins
Chelmsford and Hatfield dissapeared. Loads of cans in my car 🙁
I visited the Brent cross recycling point on 30th August 2014 but it had been removed 🙁
automated recycleing removed at crawley (hazlewick) no prior notice given and replaced with wheelie bins wich are overflowing, what an eyesore!!!
Wish I had seen this site before over 700 cans loaded in car. Travelled to Amersham which is 10 miles away only tot find no machine there. Very disappointed as it was a good points earner. No wonder Tesco are going downhill,,!
Hi,
The centre at Princes Road, Chelmsford has been removed. According to customer services this service is now finished BUT apparently there is some sort of promotional offer going on with Coca Cola …….. yeah right its a game to earn yourself either 50p voucher or 25 Tesco points !!!??? That doesn’t help with the bags and bags of cans I have …… oh well off to the recycling bin today to clear them all !!!!!
Disappointed x
Rainham and Pitsea also now removed and Lakeside still not replaced since the fire!
REALLY frustrating as these were the only local(ish) sites to me 🙁
I went to the Newbury Recycling Centre at NEWBURY, Pinchington Lane and the machines have been removed and also overflowing wheelie bins are in there place. Oh what a shame. Please bring them back.
Just come back from holiday and found all my local machines have gone with out anything saying whats happening. Poor from Tesco and as i don’t get the points anymore there is no need for me to use tesco i will use my nearest Sainsburys – Bad bit of marketing – lost revenue and profit from my purchases, no wonder they aren’t doing well as a company!!
Twickenham/Isleworth now removed. Car full of cans
E-mail from Tesco
The automated recycling machines in many of our stores are reaching the point where they need to be replaced. However, the technology for the machines is now defunct, so we’re unable to order any more of them. Therefore, the machines in all of our stores are gradually being replaced with recycling bins. You’ll still be able to recycle your cans, bottles etc., however, you won’t receive Clubcard points for doing so.
I hope this information helps and thank you for contacting Tesco Clubcard
Can recycling machine from Crieff Rd store in Perth has gone now too
The machine at Hyde Road, Gorton, Manchester was no longer there when I went today. It has been replaced by the older recycling bins.
Amersham and Watford have been removed
Essex
Basildon (Pitsea) – gone
Laindon – don’t think they ever had one, certainly don’t have one now
Chelmsford Miami – gone
Romford Gallows Corner – gone
Lakeside – gone
Went to Brookfield Centre, Cheshunt at the weekend – machine gone, no note of explanation
Just to say the centres at Taffs Well and Pengam Green Cardiff have been removed!
Worcester Tesco doesn’t have their machine anymore either.
The one in Horsham has also gone…
tesco extra twickenham customer services said today that aluminium recycling for points will be back by christmas. hope so.
I used to use the recycle centres a lot, used to collect empty cans from the clubs and donate the proceeds, now I cannot do that as all the centres have been removed.
I thought this country wants people to recycle and why should companies have all our recycles and make profits without us benefiting, come on Tesco, you are supposed to be a leader in this field, don’t let us or the country down, you must of made a fortune out of the scheme,
Also the machine that read the clubcard strip was always faulty and it had not registered my points in ages, kept complaining but nothing ever got done,
my council don’t like taking cans etc in our recycle bins from the hosue, so what are the public supposed to do.
My local recycle centre at Tesco in Portsmouth was always busy, so proves there is a need for it, nowonder Tesco is in a mess,
Hi, was at Perth tesco yesterday and it’s machine is gone! Had bags and bags of cans too! Such a shame, was a great way to get a little boost of club card points!!
Can recycling machine removed from Royston earlier this month.
Crawley Hazelwick Extra – Recycling centre removed. Store manager says that “We’re not gonna get another one, unfortunately”.
The machines at Brent Cross Tesco have been removed also. Such a shame.
I can confirm that after a period of being out of operation, the machines at South Queensferry and Dalkeith Hardengreen have been removed.
southampton and winchester both gone
Newbury removed also. Same story.
Hi Kieran the one at Uttoxeter went several months ago, we were told it was removed because of continuous breakdowns with the machine , we need to pressure Tesco into replacing these facilities due to there importance to the recycling community and global savings on c02 , my kids loved going to the centre to recycle , it was teaching them to recycle and i explained to them why we do it and they seemed to get great satisfaction from the thaught they were doing there bit for the enviorament, a great loss to the communitys that this is effecting
Dom , Uttoxeter
Last week I used the online chat facility on Tesco’s website and asked about the removal of these machines. I was told it just a temporary measure and the Customer Service team was looking into getting machines put back into place. Before I used the chat, I sent an email asking this question. Less than an hour after chatting to someone, I had a phone call from another person at Tesco, He stated these machines were being removed permanently. Tesco was only going to replace the machines with plain recycle bins.No more receiving any Tesco points for recycling your cans. Supposedly this was the action that customers wanted according to this person.
So does anyone at Tesco know what is going on?
The machine at Gatwick has been removed to allow for more parking spaces
Sent another email to Tesco this week asking for clarification on the recycling machines. Received a call again from Customer Services. The person confirmed the machines are being withdrawn from all Tesco locations and are not cling back. They are being replaced with plain recycle bins. No more clubcard points for doing your recycling at Tesco.
Tesco recycling centre has been removed from Pontypridd Tesco Extra.
Blackburn, Liverpool Litherland and Formby have all gone. Are there any of these machines still in place?
Shoreham by sea, West Sussex
Gone but not forgotten 🙁
