The Somewhat Longer Version
My name is Kieran Lane, and by my own admission am a techno fanatic. Originally from South Africa, I lived in Ireland for over 20 years before moving to the UK in 2012. I work in the UK as a Solutions Consultant for Open Text, Fax and Document Distribution Group. Previously I worked in Dublin, Ireland as Technical Director for Softech Limited where I worked with Large SME and Enterprise customers offering services and consultancy predominantly based around Open Text FDDG (formerly Captaris) technologies, concentrating on products like RightFax.
This has offered me fantastic exposure to high end Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, FileNet and SAP solutions. Over the years I have gained much experience and branched out into Disaster Recovery, Application Delivery and Virtualisation solutions. Building on this experience I have successfully designed, implemented and supported solutions from Microsoft, VMware, Citrix, Neverfail, McAfee and CA (to name but a few) for customers around the world.
In doing so I have achieved and maintained sales, pre-sales and technical accreditations for all of the solutions I promote and implement.I now concentrate on Advanced Infrastructure Solutions comprising of eDocument Delivery and Virtualisation solutions for servers as well as the desktop. I have a deep technical understanding and working experience of the major Virtualisation Platforms, Management systems and the underlying hardware and networking infrastructure.
With developments in “The Cloud” I can see how many of these technologies can be used to provide exciting and ground-breaking solutions to individuals and organisations who previously would not have even entertained the idea.
From an Operating System point of view I have worked with all Microsoft Windows OSes (from Windows 1.01 to Windows 7 / Windows Server 2010) and I can hold my own with most NIX style distros and more recently Mac.
With regard messaging platforms, I have mainly worked with Microsoft Exchange but have experience working on large scale Microsoft Exchange, IBM Lotus Notes / Domino and Novel GroupWise implementations.
An avid gadget man, I like to keep up to date with developments in consumer electronics and enjoy seeing where these can be used in conjunction with the solutions that I work on in my professional life.
I also do a small bit of web development, creating basic websites for family and friends mainly based around the usual PHP, MySQL, WordPress, phpBB, Joomla and sometimes some custom built stuff.
Recently I have taken an interest in Social Media and it’s application in business and personally. With the latest websites that I have worked on, Social Media is one of the primary considerations during the development process. I have integrated sites with Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and have concentrated on training the end users on how to use this new and exciting medium to promote themselves or their business.
In my spare time and not technology related, I try to keep active and enjoy Kayaking. I am a member of a Dublin based roof-rack club called Rockhoppers.
