Dublin Port Tunnel Opens

The Dublin Port Tunnel was officially opened today by An Taoiseach, Mr. Bertie Ahern, T.D in the presence of The Lord Mayor Cllr Vincent Jackson and the Minister of Transport, Martin Cullen, T.D.

Construction commenced in June 2001 and the tunnel was originally due to open in 2005. However due to restrictions, problems and over spends the tunnel finally opened today. The original cost of the project was estimated at €450m, it is now estimated to have cost around €752m.
